The four-day Winter Blues Jazz Fest is back and better than ever! It will take place January 17-20, 2019, over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, primarily in the Merchant's Square area of downtown Williamsburg. Venues include the Williamsburg Winery, the Williamsburg Lodge, Tent Central, and other unique spaces. Many venues are undergoing renovation and expansion this year, so we have had to be creative with our spaces. For those staying at the Williamsburg Lodge, there will be more events at that location, which will make it very convenient. The over-riding goal is to provide an enriching and entertaining weekend full of jazz and blues programs with options available to suit all tastes and budgets. The Winter Blues Jazz Fest has a little something for everyone.
Kicking things off on Thursday, January 17, the Williamsburg Winery will set the scene for the festival opening celebration, featuring Sidecar Social Club.
Friday brings us two events, the now very popular Mixology & Music, featuring a mixology cocktail sampling and a high-energy, live music performance by hometown favorites Good Shot Judy. This year, they will perform "in the round" a first for us and them too. Then festival patrons can head downstairs for a lively Friday night after-party with the Forte Jazz Band.
Saturday's event lineup will be simply unforgettable. Start off at the DoG Street Pub's Barrelhouse Bash, featuring live blues music on two stages. Slam Allen at one end and Miss Melanie and the Valley Rats at the other, add in a fine collection of brews, local wines, cider and mead and this will be one party you don't want to miss.
Alternatively, jazz lovers can hit the "Art of Jazz" event, this year featuring piano phenomenon Justin Kauflin. Check out his story under the guidance of the great Quincy Jones.
Saturday Night, we will return to the Williamsburg Lodge's Colony Room for an amazing display of female vocal power and sophistication. "Dynamite Divas" will round out the evening, followed by our late night Jazz Lounge.
Finally, cap off this stellar weekend with an amazing Gospel Brunch at the Williamsburg Lodge with Chef Justin and Guest Chef from the 5-star Williamsburg Inn, Travis Brus
